A travertine slab, with one part left rough, driven into a slope and set to speak directly with the Maiella.

The story

In the municipality of Torricella Peligna, on a slope near the village, Giuliani installed a travertine slab with an unworked portion in direct dialogue with the Maiella, ready to take every gust, every light, every wind and every season. Travertine is used as a challenge, a struggle against the resistance of the stone.

The rock holds a god, it holds a spirit. You are truly alone with yourself. The invisible is not only in space, in light, but in mass as well.

Giuliano Giuliani

He was born at Ascoli Piceno in 1954. He trained at the art institute of his home town and then attended the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata. In love with stone, he turned his father's quarry, once it closed, into a workshop, the chosen place for his work. He held his first exhibition as a student in 1975 at the Galleria Nuove Proposte in Ascoli Piceno.

Since then he has taken part in many exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, the Premio Marche, the Premio Michetti and the Biennial of Sacred Art at San Gabriele. Sculptures by Giuliani are held in the collections of the Vatican Museums, the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Matera, the Paolo Pini Art Museum in Milan, the Centre for Contemporary Sculpture in Cagli, the Diocesan Museum of Lecce and the Osvaldo Licini National Gallery of Modern Art in Ascoli Piceno.
